Redskins running back Derrius Guice suffered an ACL tear during Washington’s first preseason game on Thursday evening, according to an official announcement from the team. The news was first reported by NFL Network.
Guice will now miss the entire 2018 season. It’s a brutal development for the rookie running back, who was selected by Washington with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Leading up to this year’s draft, there was a lot of speculation that the Eagles might be interested in bringing Guice to Philadelphia. The Eagles showed a lot of pre-draft interest in him.
But then the draft came and the Eagles passed on Guice twice. Clearly they weren’t comfortable with investing in him. Washington decided to draft him when the LSU product fell all the way down to their second-round selection.
Guice figured to play a big role in Washington’s offense this season. Now the Eagles won’t be facing him at all when they play their NFC East rivals in both Week 13 and Week 17.
