Cowboys used film of Carson Wentz to try to show Dak Prescott how to be a better quarterback

This is good.

Remember all the Carson Wentz versus Dak Prescott debates from last offseason? Yeah, that was cute.

Wentz did his part to put an end to those by having an MVP-caliber season in 2017. Prescott also did his part by mightily struggling, as expected, when Ezekiel Elliott got suspended.

It seems like the Cowboys have done their part to end the “debate” as well.

Here’s a fun clip of Dallas offensive coordinator Scott Linehan showing Prescott (and Cooper Rush) film of Wentz in order to illustrate his point about throwing deep and giving ‘covered’ receivers a chance to make a play on the ball. Hat tip to r/Eagles for this clip from the All Or Nothing series:

“One thing about Dez is, when he’s got a guy on him, he’s still open, right, as long as you give him a chance. He’s not going to let the guy freaking take it down. He’ll get up there and get that ball. We got to have an aggressive mind-set and approach in this game, right?”

Linehan showed a clip of Wentz airing it out deep to Alshon Jeffery against Washington in Week 1. The pass was incomplete but only because Jeffery, who was playing through a torn rotator cuff, couldn’t hold on to the ball. Wentz gave the wide receiver a chance to make the play.

It’ll sure be interesting to see how both Wentz and Prescott perform in Year 3 of their careers. Maybe Prescott will even improve a little after studying what a good quarterback looks like.
