Prior to the start of Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice on Friday, Bleeding Green Nation’s own Benjamin Solak noticed a new player on the field. It was a guy wearing No. 76 with “Reth” on his nameplate.
A few minutes later, the Eagles officially announced the signing of undrafted rookie free agent defensive tackle Adam Reth. (Never forget: BGN had it first.)
The 6-4, 280 pound Reth attended college at the University of Northern Iowa. I couldn’t easily find his stats online so that doesn’t seem like a good sign. The Eagles attended UNI’s pro day earlier this offseason so I’m guessing that’s how Reth was on their radar.
Reth is likely just a camp body to give the Eagles more depth at defensive tackle. Keep in mind Timmy Jernigan is missing reps while being on the non-football injury list. Philadelphia’s healthy defensive tackles include: Fletcher Cox, Haloti Ngata, Destiny Vaeao, Elijah Qualls, Aziz Shittu, Winston Craig, and Bruce Hector.
The signing of Reth means the Eagles are now one player shy of the 90-man offseason roster limit. Maybe that’s being reserved for the return of Corey Graham? We’ll see.
