Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Pressure by Number of Pass-Rushers 2017 - Football Outsiders
The Eagles didn’t blitz often (26th in frequency), but when they did it was very effective, with a No. 4 ranking in both pressure rate and DVOA. [BLG Note: The Eagles also had the most effective three-man rush despite not using it often.]
2018 is Carson Wentz’s revenge tour - BGN
Wentz was simply phenomenal in his second season as a pro. It was incredibly unfortunate that his season was cut short. Things ultimately worked out for the team, of course, but Wentz deserved to be the guy who led the Eagles to glory. But that’s in the past now. Wentz’s December ACL/LCL injury is now more than seven months behind him. He’s still not 100%, no, but he looked about as healthy as he reasonably could be during spring practices. For the most part, Wentz looked as sharp as ever. So far, all signs point to him being able to start in Week 1. And with that in mind, it’s very exciting to think about what Wentz has in store for Year 3. 2018 is his revenge tour. Heck, he’s even going to get to play in the same Los Angeles stadium where his season ended last year.
Bowman to drive car with Philadelphia Eagles logos and colors - ESPN
Alex Bowman will get to do something that Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t: He will drive a NASCAR Cup Series car with an NFL team’s colors and logos. Axalta, a Hendrick Motorsports sponsor, had wanted to use a paint scheme a year ago to promote its Axalta All-Pro Teachers program that it does with the Philadelphia Eagles. But an NFL policy that had prohibited team marks to be used in connection with the promotion or presentation of another sport nixed the paint scheme.
Which Process to Trust? - Inside The Pylon
Most teams have an opportunity to make a run at the playoffs when the season begins no matter the pre-season projections. There are too many variables due to the lack of large sample sizes in the NFL to make bulletproof pre-season projections as a 16 game regular season and changing rosters from year to year don’t allow us to make many definitive claims. It’s largely why there are marginal differences between a 10-6 team and a 6-10 team season to season. Case in point, over the course of two seasons the Philadelphia Eagles finished 7-9 and then won the Super Bowl the following year. That’s a far quicker and more successful turnaround than their basketball cohorts who reside across the street can say for themselves. The Eagles are the antithesis of the tanking movement in professional sports. Their turnaround can be attributed to finding inefficiencies across the different markets at their disposal. For instance, Howie Roseman, the executive vice president of football operations, used the trade market to acquire quality veteran-plug and play contributors in exchange for late round draft picks. These moves vastly increased their projected return on investment and helped vault them into instant contenders.
Fantasy players to watch in training camp, 2018: NFC East - PFF
Jay Ajayi has been one of the most elusive players since entering the NFL, consistently leading our elusive rating by forcing missed tackles and creating yards after contact. Players at his position who dominate this metric have been more likely to break out, but Ajayi’s overall volume has held him back from a true breakout. In 2018, Ajayi isn’t being drafted anywhere close to where he was last summer despite the fact that he’s set to enter the season with a much better offensive line and in one of the most explosive projected offenses overall. The volume may not be there, but the per-snap production should be.
Jeannie Pederson: ‘Life Has Changed’ Since Super Bowl - PE.com
Life has changed for Doug and Jeannie Pederson since the Eagles won the Super Bowl on February 4. There is so much more attention, so many more people pawing at the Eagles’ head coach for his time, a lot of acclaim for a down-to-earth family man. “Oh, it’s been great, a dream. That’s what it feels like, a dream,” Jeannie Pederson said as she watched Doug in a practice round of golf ahead of this weekend’s American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament. “And, we got the fairy-tale ending, so you just enjoy everything that goes with it. We’ve had different opportunities to do things that we might never have done otherwise. It’s just been awesome.”
EA updates Nick Foles’ Madden player rating after Eagles appeal - NBC Sports Philadelphia
After Eagles fans were upset about low ratings for many of the team’s players, including Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, the team’s official Twitter account made an appeal to the makers of the game to adjust their ratings.
Would Howie Roseman Have Traded Up For Budda Baker? - Revenge Of The Birds
As Brett Kollmann points out, Roseman has inked his two safeties Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod to multi-year contracts, which this year count for $$18.5M combined on the salary cap (the 2nd and 3rd highest cap figures on the Eagles’ defense behind Fletcher Cox). By contrast, the Eagles’ highest paid CB this season is Sidney Jones at $1.4M, followed by Ronald Darby at $1.1M (the 14th and 15th highest paid players on defense). In fact, backup FS Chris Maragos is making more money ($2M) this season than either of the starting CBs.
What DeMarco Murray’s Early Retirement Means for the NFL’s Current Crop of Star Running Backs - The Ringer
Just three years after being named the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year, Murray is out of the league. And his career arc could provide a glimpse into the sad financial futures of backs like Le’Veon Bell and Todd Gurley.
How the option offense evolved in ‘Madden’ and ‘NCAA Football’ - SB Nation
During the 2006 Sugar Bowl, EA Sports playbook designer Anthony White watched Rich Rodriguez’s West Virginia carve up Georgia, deploying a type of play he hadn’t seen. We know it now as the run-pass option, offensive football’s most recent evolution. “Pat White was in the shotgun. It’s like ok, every time Georgia would load the box, they’d throw like the bubble screen or the quick hitch outside to the receivers, or they’d run the ball with Steve Slaton and they’d gash ‘em for big yards,” White said.
