Eagles News: Fan favorite ex-Eagle gets deserved Super Bowl ring

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 6/22/18

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Jon Dorenbos, magician and former Eagles player, gets Super Bowl ring - ESPN
In an offseason full of feels, here’s a big’un. Dorenbos was moved to New Orleans in early September for a later draft pick—it was a tough move, as the return didn’t seem to measure up to the impact Dorenbos had on this locker room as a man. But the trade and ensuing physical led to potentially life-saving heart surgery for Dorenbos, who saw his football career end suddenly and shakily. Putting a ring on his finger just feels right.

One Eagles opponent will reportedly be without their starting quarterback - BGN
Allegations surrounding Jameis Winston’s inappropriate conduct in an Uber have finally reached a head two years later: the NFL has suspended the fourth-year QB for the opening three games of the 2018 season. Philadelphia’s first road trip of the season is to Tampa Bay in Week 2, which means the Birds will face Ryan Fitzpatrick, who unquestionably leads the league in Starts As A ‘Second-String’ Quarterback (SAASSQ).

Howie the Genius — Iggles Blitz
Following a poor season comes scrutiny—Roseman is all too familiar with that suspicious eye, and how it can cost NFL executives their positions. But following a Super Bowl winning season (which the Eagles just had, by the way) is scrutiny again. Investigating how Howie has constructed this roster reveals the weaknesses of the market he likes to exploit. Some common conclusions drawn—valuing RT equally to LT; investing in safety over cornerback—are investigated here.

Where the Eagles are deep, and not so deep, in 2018: Defense edition - PhillyVoice
The Eagles hung 41 points on the New England Patriots (when they won the Super Bowl (that was this past February (they are the reigning Super Bowl champions))) but gave up 33 points in the effort. On the defensive depth chart, the starting corps looks strong as ever—but there are some positions worthy of a veteran or rotational addition.

NFL Supplemental Draft: CB Sam Beal scouting report - NFL Draft Scout
The supplemental draft is a thing this year! Always fun. Far and above the crowning jewel of a secondary-heavy class in the July event is Sam Beal, second team All-MAC corner from Western Michigan. A prototypical press corner with excellent ability deep to track and attack the football, Beal should interest the Eagles who—despite being very strong at the cornerback position—have limited capital to re-sign impending free agent Ronald Darby following the 2018 season. Beal would undoubtedly benefit from a year on the bench, which would be provided him in Philadelphia, a team with an extra second- and fourth-round selection (projected) in the 2019 Draft.

Malcolm Jenkins joins Viceland’s Desus and Mero for return interview - Viceland
The Viceland late night hosts have brought in their fair share of professional athletes from the NFL and NBA alike, to answer questions ranging from silly to sober. After appearing last summer to discuss largely his social activism, Jenkins returned to the show to discuss all things Super Bowl, Trump, picking off Eli, and recruiting LeBron James to Philadelphia. As he typically does, Jenkins proved himself an engaging, but carefully measured interviewee

A progress report for Eagles’ draft picks after spring practices - NBC Sports Philadelphia
With a ribbon tied on the spring and eyes reaching far into summer for the next look at the newest Birds, it was high time for a check-up with the rooks. The young bloods mostly filled expectations: the polished products look ready to produce, and the projects look ready to...produce later. Extra points for a Forgetting Sarah Marshall reference.

2018 NBA Draft: Why the Sixers traded for Zhaire Smith after originally drafting Mikal Bridges - PhillyVoice
Is it Eagles-related? Only adjacently. But in their pursuit of a championship, the GM-less Sixers had an eventful Draft night, on which they completed multiple trades—none bigger than that of trading their brand spankin’ new 10th overall pick for the...16th pick in the same Draft? Drafting a Philadelphia staple like Villanova’s Bridges only to ship him away seems rather callous at first brush: but head coach (and acting shot-caller?) Brett Brown was right to say: the Sixers are star-chasing. And this move certainly gets them closer to adding another star in the 2018 offseason.
