The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some changes to their athletic training staff on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles hired Jerome Reid as their new head athletic trainer. Reid replaces Chris Peduzzi, who resigned earlier this offseason after spending 19 years with Philadelphia.
Reid joins the Eagles after serving as an assistant athletic trainer with the Tennessee Titans since 2014. Here’s how the Titans ranked in Football Outsiders‘ Adjusted Games Lost metric during that span. For those who aren’t familiar with AGL, their healthiest season in the four-year stretch below was in 2016.
2017: 24th
2016: 10th
2015: 18th
2014: 22nd
One interesting thing about Reid’s background is that he’s a native of Petersburg, Virginia. That might suggest Joe Douglas had a role in this hire. Petersburg is only a 40-minute drive south of Douglas’ hometown of Mechanicsville. The Eagles have also drafted and signed a number of prospects from the Virginia area since Douglas was hired by Philly.
In other news, the Eagles promoted Joe O’Pella to assistant athletic trainer. O’Pella is currently in his ninth full-time season with the team. You may recognize Joe as the Eagles’ epic mustache guy.
