We get access to a lot of photos here at BGN. Unfortunately, we don’t get to use them all. Some don’t work as lead photos, some get uploaded well after the event, and some just get lost in the shuffle. So I thought from now until training camp, we should show them off, even if we have used them before. Who else to start if off with but our baby boy, Carson Wentz.

The blurred receiver, the football in the top corner, the defender with his arm in the crook of Wentz’s left arm, and the out of focus ref watching it all unfold. There’s a lot going on here, and it’s all captured in a single frame.

I like this photo because it looks like it’s from the hey day of Sports Illustrated in the 60s and 70s. The lighting, the huge amount of headroom, the slightly out of focus defenders a moment before the action begins... it’s old school.

Not every great sports photo has to be of game action. This one, taken prior to the Broncos game, is a colorful and serene capture of the calm before the storm of an NFL game.

Great photos capture feelings. This picture was taken during the Rams game, but isn’t of Wentz limping off the field as his season ended, though it looks like it. This too has several layers: the ref signaling incomplete, the mixture in the crowd as Eagles fans invaded Los Angeles for this game. This game was a hard fought near-Pyrrhic victory, and the dejection of Wentz amplified by the grass stains on his pants and towel encapsulates it.

Part of Carson Wentz’s allure is that he’s incredibly photogenic. His smile is infectious, and this captures it perfectly.
