The Philadelphia Eagles are interested in free agent defensive tackle Terrell McClain, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.
McClain is scheduled to visit with the Cowboys in Dallas today. Reports indicate he’s already visited both the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers.
The 29-year-old McClain has been on five different NFL teams since the Carolina Panthers selected him with pick No. 65 overall in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
McClain’s most productive year came in 2016 when he notched 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 15 starts with the Cowboys. The LolSkins were so impressed by this that they decided to sign him to a four-year contract worth $21 million.
McClain finished the 2017 season with 17 tackles and two sacks for Washington. For what it’s worth, he graded out as one of PFF’s worst interior defenders in the entire league.
The Redskins recently decided to McClain after selecting defensive tackles Da’Ron Payne (first round) and Tim Settle (fifth round) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Eagles are clearly looking around for more defensive tackle depth following the news that Timmy Jernigan could miss four-to-six months as he recovers from surgery on a herniated disc. Philadelphia reportedly hosted free agent defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw earlier this week. Now they apparently have some interest in McClain as well. Personally, I think the Eagles should go with Upshaw rather than McClain.
