The Philadelphia Eagles added a new weapon to their offense on Friday night by trading up ahead of the Cowboys in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft to select tight end Dallas Goedert.
We’ll have more in-depth analysis on Goedert here at Bleeding Green Nation. For now, here are some instant reactions to the pick. Starting with this glowing praise from Pro Football Focus:
Dallas Goedert ranked as @PFF’s No. 1 tight end. They called him “the best offensive mismatch weapon in the draft” https://t.co/Za8ssQ4GCP pic.twitter.com/b9iGuRWxRQ

The rich get richer! The Eagles land talented South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert to add even more talent to their offense pic.twitter.com/KrTUPzI4Vw

Interestingly enough; our very own @TheBenNatan compared Dallas Goedert to... Zach Ertz! https://t.co/c3YZ26EAwD

Dallas Goedert is excellent value at 52. Tremendous receiver, with potential to become a solid blocker. Big frame. Good athlete. Freaky good hands.

Dallas Goedert is the first TE the #Eagles have drafted since they took Zach Ertz in the second round in 2013.

Goedert is one of the top graded TEs in this draft. Had minor hamstring injury at Senior Bowl. Really talented player. Repped by same agency as Wentz.#NFLDraft

Personnel exec said on Goedert: Much more advanced as a blocker than Ertz was at time that he was drafted. Eagles lost two TEs in free agency (Celek, Burton), so position was a need.#NFLDraft

Thanks to ESPN leaking to ESPN that Jason Witten plans to retire, Eagles jump Cowboys for a tight end.

Underrated part of having another solid TE, it’s not just about how many snaps he plays in 12/13P but having personnel flexibility is one of main reasons for Eagles offensive success this past season. Eagles ran mesh 9x in SB, can do that if you can’t dress it up. Good pick

Here's the scouting report on Dallas Goedert from PFF. He was their #1 TE. pic.twitter.com/gxoNMGd9t2

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert 2018 projection: 28 targets, 18 receptions, 197 yards, 2 TD
— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) April 28, 2018
Asked two years ago before the draft who Carson Wentz reminded him of, Howie Roseman said Brent Celek. TE Dallas Goedert is another Dakotan. Sounds like he has a similar midwestern discipline. “It’s his work ethic and football IQ that have made the difference.” - SDS TEs coach.

Doug Pederson said they envision using Dallas Goedert similarly to how they used Trey Burton last year, playing him at times with Zach Ertz. #Eagles
— Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) April 28, 2018
Joe Douglas on Goedert: "Dallas is a blue-collar kid. He works extremely hard. This is a guy we felt dominated at that level of play the last two years." #Eagles

Doug Pederson says he thinks Goedert will learn the offense quickly. Joe Douglas says tape shows “a guy that can separate at the top of the route.” pic.twitter.com/gU2trbvuu1

Howie Roseman said Carson Wentz has been walking around the building talking about Goedert recently. Wentz and Goedert already know each other. Both played in Dakotas, share agent.

Updated #Eagles pass targets:
— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) April 28, 2018
Ertz (TE)
Jeffery (WR)
Agholor (WR)
Wallace (WR)
Hollins (WR)
Goedert (TE)
R. Rodgers (TE)#NFLDraft
Eagles wanted to build that TE depth chart. To take a small-school player, J. Douglas believes the player must dominate. That's what they saw from Geodert on film. Also, they were able to see him vs. TCU and Senior Bowl to gauge against better competition. That helped in eval.
