Eagles cornerback Daryl Worley was arrested early this morning, according to reports from NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. RapSheet provided the following details:
Eagles CB Daryl Worley was arrested at 6 am this morning when he became combative with police and Philadelphia police administrated a taser on him, sources tell @MikeGarafolo and me. A gun was recovered on the scene.
The Eagles recently traded for CB Daryl Worley in exchange for Torrey Smith (who they were slated to release). In college, Worley pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault. … This time, Worley was found passed out inside a vehicle blocking a highway. 911 was called.
Garafolo notes this alleged incident occurred at Broad and Pattison, which is right near the Eagles’ team facility (NovaCare Complex).
The Eagles released the following statement:
“We are in the process of gathering more information about Daryl Worley’s arrest this morning.”
The Eagles acquired the 23-year-old Worley, a Philadelphia native, in a trade with the Carolina Panthers last month. It was surprising when the Eagles acquired Worley because 1) it wasn’t expected they could get anything for Torrey Smith and 2) they already have a lot of young corners.
Due to that defensive back depth, Worley wasn’t necessarily a lock to make the Eagles’ final roster in the first place. This alleged incident certainly does nothing to help his standing with the team. It’s worth noting Worley can be released for a cap savings of $670,000 with zero dead money.
Worley is the second Eagles player to be taken into custody this year. Defensive end Michael Bennett was arrested last month. Both players were acquired by the Eagles in trades this offseason.
The Eagles are set to begin their offseason workout program tomorrow on Monday, April 16. The quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions begins with some players facing legal issues.
UPDATE: Some perspective from a Panthers reporter.
After Panthers traded Worley, team source told me part of it was concern over his focus/commitment. https://t.co/djfYclpvJN

Actually the expression used RE Worley was, “He liked the nightlife.”
