Some quick thoughts on these changes:
- Here’s why the Eagles picked Groh over Staley for the OC job.
- Only two changes here were not previously reported: Jeff Stoutland getting “run game coordinator” tacked on to his job description and Trent Miles being promoted to his new title.
- Stoutland has effectively been the Eagles’ run game coordinator anyway so this was likely just about a pay raise and a new title.
- Miles moving to assistant running backs coach could indicate he’s an in-house replacement if another team hires Staley away.
- Brewer and Walch are the only two outside hires. The Eagles decided to promote from within for every other vacancy.
- Brewer could be considered for the Eagles’ OC job if both Groh and Duce eventually move on.
- It’s important for the Eagles to keep stocking their coaching pipeline. We all saw how Andy Reid’s staff got depleted over the years. One would hope the franchise learned from that and prioritizes good replacements this time around.
