Brian Dawkins officially announced his presenter for the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. Dawkins is going with none other than his former Philadelphia Eagles teammate: Troy Vincent.
“Well, the presenter that will actually be on stage will be Troy Vincent. He was my teammate in Philadelphia.
We came there the same year. Almost from day one, he kinda … not kinda, he took me up under his wing. Becoming a professional, not just a football player, but a professional. The details. Like, the details that he went through, meticulous, of how he played the position of cornerback, was the same way that he lived his life. And his calendars and his businesses that he had off the field.
But he’s a guy that I can call at any time. Any time of night. And tell him 100% raw what’s going on with me. And I know he’s not going to judge me. It’s not going to leave his lips or anybody else. The most important thing for me, a man of faith, is that I know he’s going to pray with me.
And so all those things combined is the reason why Troy was the perfect guy to introduce me into the Hall of Fame.”
Vincent, who currently serves as the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, publicly commented on Dawkins’ selection.
To @BrianDawkins, my brother in Christ, friend, teammate, confidant: may God continue to use you in a mighty way, as salt and light, a living sacrifice to glorify Him. https://t.co/BqMxdSbKbT— Troy Vincent (@TroyVincent23) March 20, 2018
Each day for 8 years, we prayed together that our bodies would be a living sacrifice, glorifying God on every play. This is the standard we set together. #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/BCdoHJmoZt— Troy Vincent (@TroyVincent23) March 20, 2018
The journey continues. The accountability hasn’t changed. The non-negotiables of family, faith and football remain. May you use this platform to glorify God in all that you do. #PFHOF18 #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/UOpXjOQ8M7— Troy Vincent (@TroyVincent23) March 20, 2018
Dawkins and Vincent played in Philadelphia together from 1996 through 2003. They played on some really good defenses together during that span.
But it’s not just about what the former teammates accomplished on the field. Dawkins and Vincent have clearly formed a life-long bond as friends.
It’ll be cool to see one great former Eagles player presenting his Hall of Fame teammate this summer.
This year’s Enshrinement Ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 4 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Start time is 7:00 PM ET.
