NFL Free Agency Rumors: Caleb Sturgis drawing interest from teams

More special teams news.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Caleb Sturgis is drawing some interest in NFL free agency.

The former Philadelphia Eagles kicker visited the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday and is set to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers today on Friday, according to a report from ESPN.

After suffering a quad injury in Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season, the Eagles placed Sturgis on the injured reserve list. He remained there the entire year after losing his job to rookie sensation Jake Elliott.

Sturgis signing with another team would potentially help Philadelphia’s compensatory pick formula. As of right now, the Birds are only projected to get one extra pick next year, but a Sturgis signing could help them towards receiving a second one.

So here’s to Sturgis landing a nice contract with his new team. It’s not like the Eagles didn’t re-sign him because he was bad. Sturgis was pretty solid in Philadelphia before getting hurt. It’s just that Elliott is the obvious option for the Eagles moving forward.
