NFL Free Agency Rumors: Patrick Robinson drawing interest from Patriots

This wouldn’t be fun.

NFL: Super Bowl LII-Philadelphia Eagles vs New England Patriots Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are showing interest in free agent cornerback Patrick Robinson, according to a report from Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal.

On Monday, it was reported that Robinson was expected to re-sign with the Eagles before the NFL’s legal tampering period even begun. That obviously wasn’t the case, and now there are only hours remaining until the new league year officially begins at 4:00 PM ET today.

Losing Robinson to the Patriots would be a bummer given how well he played as the Eagles’ slot corner in 2017. The 30-year-old defensive back simply might be out of Philly’s reasonable price range, however. Especially if multiple teams are truly competing for his services. The following teams have reportedly expressed interest in Robinson so far: Eagles, Patriots, Raiders, Cardinals, and Giants.

It would be ideal to keep Robinson around at an affordable cost. It might not be the best use of resources, however, given that the Eagles already have a glut of young corner talent. The problem is none of them project as sure-fire options to play in the slot. The Eagles’ reported interest in keeping Robinson signals as much.

We’ll see what happens. The common thought was that Nigel Bradham wasn’t going to be re-signed and now he’s staying. Maybe we’ll hear about a P-Rob extension later today.

Or maybe he’ll take his talents elsewhere.

Stay tuned.
