As an unrestricted free agent, Burton was never expected back with Eagles in 2018. In Chicago he gets quite the pay day as a new target for Mitchell Trubisky, along with Allen Robinson, who has also reportedly signed with the Bears.
As the third tight end, Burton had 23 receptions for 248 yards and 5 TDs in the regular season in 2017, and of course that touchdown pass in the Super Bowl. In 2017 Zach Miller led Bears tight ends with just 20 receptions, so Burton should be a significant upgrade.
Fun fact: with Case Keenum signing with the Broncos and Kirk Cousins replacing him on the Vikings, Burton is the only player in the NFC North to throw a touchdown in the playoffs last year. He did so on a play the Eagles stole from the Bears, so there’s something fitting about this.
