Eagles activate Mike Wallace from injured reserve, make some other roster moves

Another weapon for Philadelphia’s offense.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some roster moves on Monday afternoon.

The big news is that veteran wide receiver Mike Wallace has been activated from the injured reserve list. Wallace suffered a broken fibula back during the Eagles’ Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It remains to be seen if Wallace will be able to play in Week 17. Doug Pederson indicated Wallace will be a limited participant in practice this week as he goes through some individual drills. It might be more realistic to envision Wallace being able to return for a wild card game, assuming Philadelphia finds a find to make the playoffs.

The Eagles signed Wallace in free agency with the idea he could be a replacement for Torrey Smith as a deep threat. Wallace showed the ability to burn defenders during offseason practices but he failed to log a reception in his first two games. We’ll see if can potentially make a difference in the Eagles’ most important game(s) of the year.

Wallace’s return means that no other Eagles players can be activated from IR this season. NFL teams are limited to two activations per season and the Eagles have used theirs on Richard Rodgers and Wallace. This means Mack Hollins is officially done for the year.

In order to make room for Wallace on the 53-man roster, the Eagles waived cornerbacks De’Vante Bausby and Chandon Sullivan. Philadelphia also promoted recently signed corner Josh Hawkins from the practice squad.

Bausby and Sullivan were previously promoted from the practice squad due to the Eagles being so thin in the secondary. Both players struggled when forced into action, however. The Eagles clearly think Hawkins is a better option. It’s possible either Bausby or Sullivan takes Hawkins’ spot on the practice squad, assuming they clear waivers.
