Eagles vs. Texans Final Injury Report: 3 players out, 4 questionable

Final injury update.

NFL: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Friday in advance of their Week 16 game against the Houston Texans.

Three players were been ruled OUT: starting quarterback Carson Wentz, starting left guard Isaac Seumalo, and cornerback Sidney Jones.

We already knew Wentz wasn’t going to play this week. Doug Pederson declared Nick Foles as the starter on Monday. Nate Sudfeld will serve as Foles’ backup.

Seumalo is set to miss his second straight start. It’ll be Stefen Wisniewski who take his place once again.

Jones being out means the Eagles’ starting outside cornerbacks could be Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox. Maddox really balled out in his first NFL start on the outside last weekend.

Four players were ruled QUESTIONABLE: starting defensive end Michael Bennett, starting defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, nickel cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc, and special teams linebacker D.J. Alexander.

Bennett was limited on Friday after sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday. The expectation is that he’ll play.

Jernigan’s status could be iffy. He was limited in practice all week. He could be more of a game time decision based on whether his back spasms flare up or not. It’d sure be nice to have him back.

LeBlanc was limited on both Thursday and Friday. Hopefully he’ll be able to play. If not, the Eagles could be counting on De’Vante Bausby to play at slot corner. Or maybe they shift Maddox inside and put the 6-1 Bausby on Houston’s big wide receivers.

Alexander did not practice on Thursday or Friday. His playing chances don’t look great.

Fletcher Cox, Alshon Jeffery, Jordan Hicks, Zach Ertz, Cameron Johnston, and Jake Elliott aren’t listed on the final injury report despite appearing on the Wednesday and Thursday editions. That’s good news; they’re all set to play against the Texans. Hicks will be making his return to the field for the first time since Week 11.

The aforementioned Douglas missed Friday’s practice due to personal reasons. Not injury related.
