Wentzmageddon Wednesday has turned the internet into a circus, but there is a place you can hunker down in until the clowns move on to another town. That place is Bleeding Green Nation podcasts, where we explain what we know and pride ourselves on providing measured, reasoned takes. At least we hope that’s the case.
Obviously first on the docket for The Kist & Solak Show #53 was digging into what the recent report regarding Carson Wentz’s health could mean and how it happened. Some are treating this as a new injury independent of his ACL/LCL recovery, but we think it’s directly related. We also believe the fact that his back spasms have popped up on the injury report weeks ago is actually a good sign, all things and hot takes considered.
There’s also a chance the whole thing is being overblown.

Back spasm, soreness, tightness early/mid week does not equate to out for Sunday (and definitely doesn't explain rumors of out for year). This is either media hysteria or there is more to the injury story.
Other than the injury, we felt it was time to provide some context to the likely overblown but not entirely baseless Carson Wentz-Zach Ertz “bromance” narrative. The case is simple. If you view Ertz as a wide receiver, where he plays a very healthy portion of his snaps, and not as a tight end, is everybody as upset about their connection? There’s plenty of data and film for context, so we ask that you reserve your judgement until you’re able to hear all the facts.
During my re-watch of the Eagles’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys I did find some positive takeaways on the defensive side of the ball. Brandon Graham’s mental processing, Michael Bennett’s pass rush, and Rasul Douglas’ ball production were among those positives.
Brandon Graham has been playing some excellent ball lately. Back-to-back plays here, sniffing out a screen and keying run direction w/backside pursuit - pic.twitter.com/LPrsyOp15o— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) December 11, 2018
The negatives, of course, center around some puzzling coverage deployments from Jim Schwartz, plus Corey Graham forever torments us.
This one kills me.. After 2nd & 19 where Bausby gets caught in a bind vs Flat-7.. this 3rd & 9.. man vs bunch.. how on earth is Rasul Douglas supposed to track Cooper through this traffic? pic.twitter.com/ujxHaHiXx5— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) December 12, 2018
There’s also a conversation to be had on the offensive side of the ball where even the newer concepts are becoming stale and predictable. Am I working on a piece on Mike Groh regarding his future here? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. Be on the look out for that.
Eagles have been using this sniffer/wing look in the run game exclusively on inside concepts. Lawrence keys on it & crashes, which Preston Smith did w/success last week. LVE quick to fill - pic.twitter.com/GfOIsGZA8z— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) December 11, 2018
