The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some roster moves on Tuesday.
First, Corey Clement and Josh Sweat have been placed on injured reserve. Both players got hurt during the Eagles’ Week 14 loss to the Cowboys. They’re now out for the rest of the season.
The Eagles replaced Clement and Sweat on the 53-man roster by signing free agent running back Boston Scott and free agent defensive end Daeshon Hall.
Scott is a player in the Darren Sproles mold, as BGN’s Benjamin Solak already pointed out. Saints fans seem to be annoyed the Eagles signed the rookie runner off of New Orleans’ practice squad.
Hall was a third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2017 NFL Draft. He doesn’t have NFL experience but he does offer good size and athleticism.

Losing Clement means the Eagles are down to just Josh Adams, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, and Scott at running back. Unfortunately, Clement’s injury likely means Smallwood will see an increase in playing time.
Sweat’s injury means the Eagles are down to just Brandon Graham, Michael Bennett, Chris Long, and Hall at defensive end. Philadelphia’s pass rush rotation is much more shallow than it was in 2017.
The Eagles now have 14 players currently on their injured reserve list. It’s safe to say Philadelphia has been bitten hard by the injury bug in 2018. While injuries don’t explain away all of the Eagles’ struggles, they certainly haven’t helped matters.

The Eagles also announced a practice squad signing on Tuesday. Free agent cornerback Josh Hawkins is joining the team.
The 25-year-old Hawkins originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. He appeared in 26 games with Green Bay, making three starts over two seasons. The Packers cut him prior to the 2018 season and he’s since spent time on practice squads with the Panthers and Chiefs.
The Eagles had a vacant practice squad spot after promoting Bruce Hector to the active roster over the weekend. Adding Hawkins makes sense since Philly is dealing with a ton of injuries in the secondary.
