Last night the Dallas Cowboys threw a monkey wrench in the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles’ clear path to a potential NFC Title. By upsetting the New Orleans Saints, it makes the path much harder but not impossible for the Eagles to contend. The first part of staying in the race for the Eagles will be taking care of business at home against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.
In our second preview of this game on The Kist & Solak Show (BGN Radio Preview here), we flipped sides and broke down the Eagles’ offense against the Redskins’ defense.
Part of moving the ball against the Redskins will require staying on schedule on early downs. While the Redskins’ defense struggles on third downs in general (43%, 28th), they rank high (21%, t-3rd) on third and long situations. They’re effective blitzers, something that the Eagles’ offense have largely failed to handle this season.
#GiantsPride DC James Bettcher was effective with the blitz. Came with it on 32% of dropbacks for 2 sacks, 1.8 yards per play, & a 20% opposing success rate.— Michael Kist (@MichaelKistNFL) November 26, 2018

Does that require the Eagles to run the ball more on early downs considering the success they had with it against the New York Giants? Is it smart to do so against a front that includes studs Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis?
One matchup the Eagles will be able to exploit are the Redskins’ linebackers in coverage, especially Mason Foster. We detail that and all the other key matchups and strategies on The Kist & Solak Show #47. Listen to it on the media player below or click here if the player doesn’t load. FLY EAGLES FLY!
