It feels like there have been a number of “must-win” games for the Eagles this year. Sunday’s matchup against the New York Giants really is one, though.
If the Eagles win today, they’ll be just one game under .500 at 5-6. Philadelphia will have a real chance to get back in the NFC East race given that the Cowboys have to play the Saints on Thursday night.
If the Eagles lose today, they’ll be 4-7. The season is essentially over at that point. From 1990 through 2013, only three percent of teams to start 4-7 made the playoffs.
I’d like to believe that the Eagles are going to bounce back today. Losing four straight at the Linc just seems unlikely. And we know that the Eagles always own the Giants.
But how can you trust this Eagles team to not disappoint? They’re not exactly dependable.
The offense is broken. The Eagles couldn’t even put up points against a vulnerable Saints defense.
The defense is depleted. Philadelphia is without their top five starting cornerbacks.
This all hardly screams “recipe for victory” to me.
The Eagles will put forth a better level of effort than last week. This game will be competitive; it’s not exactly like the Giants are a juggernaut.
But I just don’t feel good enough about this team to project a win. Here’s hoping Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson step up to prove us doubters wrong. The pressure is on them.
