A number of local hospitals are reporting something of a baby boom, and it’s not overly difficult to figure out why. About nine months ago, the Philadelphia Eagles won the big game, and people flooded the streets to celebrate. But it seems many couples continued the celebration at home. Now, many are welcoming what nurses call the “Super Bowl babies!” Action News health reporter Ali Gorman introduces us to some families who will have a life-long reminder of the Birds’ long-awaited championship!

Every YAC-oriented pass Agholor has caught this season feels like he missed out on opportunities to break tackles or fight for an extra few yards. There will soon be a world where Tate is catching these passes without clumsily spinning into his own blockers’ backs or failing to generate any acceleration upon receiving the ball. In turn, the Eagles will find themselves more consistently ahead of the chains and generating more explosive plays due to Tate’s savvy as a ballcarrier. Simply reducing the amount of wasted touches afforded to Agholor should help the Eagles’ offense immensely. As Wentz continues to light up opposing defenses and Tate enters the fray to boost an already ascending passing offense, the numbers will start to reflect how good this Eagles’ passing attack is. The Eagles are on track, and now better equipped, to compete with any team in the league on the back of their passing offense.

Eagles fans can look back to the Reid era to see plenty of wasted opportunities. The 2001 team played really good defense. They didn’t give up more than 21 points in any game during the regular season. Then Troy Vincent got hurt in January and the Eagles couldn’t beat the high-flying Rams. The 2002 team had great OL play, great defense and great overall chemistry. They ran into the Bucs and one of the greatest defenses of all time. The 2003 team had to deal with a lot of injuries, but saw Brian Westbrook emerge as a star. Then he got hurt in the season finale and the team lost in the NFC title game for the third straight year. The 2017 Eagles overcame injuries. They overcame facing a great Vikings defense in the NFC title game. They overcame Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl. That really was a special team.

The Eagles anticipate that some of their injured players are going to return healthy and positively impact the playoff picture. Running back Darren Sproles (hamstring) hasn’t played since Week 1, so he’s got to be close. Dallas? Maybe. We’ll see how his hamstring responds next week when the Eagles push him more. Tight end Richard Rodgers? He’s eligible to return from Injured Reserve after suffering a knee injury in the preseason. Rodgers is a good inline blocker and showed in the summer and in the preseason that he can also help in the passing game as a receiver. Safety Corey Graham came close to returning in London and could very well be good to go for Dallas. Cornerback Sidney Jones? He’s been out a few weeks with a hamstring injury and has made progress in his recovery. Getting Jones back would be a nice boost for a secondary riddled with injury. Defensive tackle Tim Jernigan? No real word on when he might play again after suffering a back injury in the offseason, other than Pederson saying a few times that Jernigan has made “good progress” with his rehab. Jernigan would be a very nice addition for a late-season push. Wide receivers Mack Hollins (groin) and Mike Wallace (leg) remain on Injured Reserve with no timetable in sight for their return.

TE Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles – 72.1 Overall Grade. The former South Dakota State tight end has very much lived up to his scouting report over the first eight weeks of the season, catching all 18 of his catchable targets for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Over the first half of the campaign, Goedert has caught two contested passes, forced two missed tackles and has generated a passer rating of 107.5 on his red-zone targets, which is the fifth-best mark among all tight ends with at least five red-zone targets this season.

The work the Eagles have done in locking up their core over the next two years means they can keep a good amount of their talent around, even after Wentz gets a new extension. The question becomes timing: Do the Eagles sign Wentz after this season and sacrifice a year at a bargain price to save money on his extension, or do they wait until the 2020 offseason and pay a steeper price? This is a good problem to have.

A lack of consistency has haunted the Eagles in all three facets of the game but one thing that has carried over from last year, on the defensive side of the ball, is how they are defending the run. In 2017, the Eagles ranked first in run defense, surrendering only 79.2 yards per game. In 2018, despite obvious struggles, the Eagles currently have the fourth-best run defense, allowing 83.8 yards per game. One interesting tidbit: The Eagles have given up 179 rushing yards (5.3 YPC) to quarterbacks. This means they are allowing only 61.4 yards per game on average to opposing running backs.

But Wentz’s odds are about to go up with new addition Golden Tate in town. The former Detroit Lion, added at the cost of a third-round pick, is averaging 1,056 receiving yards per season over his last four years. Putting him in a rotation with Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, Nelson Agholor, and Jordan Matthews gives him a wide range of capable wideouts for the second half of 2018.
