The NFL has announced their 32 player nominees for the 2018 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, and the Eagles representative chosen is quarterback Carson Wentz.

This marks the fifth year that the award is given to the player who exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship on the field, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

From the field of 32 nominees, a panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community will select eight finalists (four from both the AFC and NFC), and those players will be included in the Pro Bowl ballots sent to players throughout the league.

The award was created in 2014 in honor of the late owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr. In it’s inaugural year, Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals) was honored, followed by Charles Woodson (Raiders) in 2015, Frank Gore (Colts) in 2016, and Luke Kuechly (Panthers) last year.

Winners will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of their choice, and also receive a trophy for the honor.

Wentz will be up against some high-caliber competition, but it’s hard to think he doesn’t have a chance for an award honoring on-field sportsmanship — something he’s always demonstrated.
