Eagles Injury Report: Fletcher Cox and Alshon Jeffery return, Corey Clement and Darren Sproles still out

More news and updates.

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles released their second official injury report on Thursday in advance of their Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The good news is that Fletcher Cox, Jason Peters, and Alshon Jeffery were upgraded to full participants today. Cox and Jeffery sat out entirely on Wednesday while Peters was limited. It looks like these three starters will be good to go for this weekend’s game.

The bad news is that Derek Barnett, Corey Clement, and Darren Sproles did NOT practice once again. It seems unlikely they’ll play on Sunday.

Missing Barnett hurts the Eagles’ pass rush rotation. The second-year defensive end played the most snaps of any defensive lineman not named Cox in Week 4. If Barnett is out, Philadelphia will have Brandon Graham, Michael Bennett, Chris Long, and rookie fourth-round pick Josh Sweat active on game day. Sweat could get some playing time for the first time this season.

Clement and Sproles potentially being out is bad for Carson Wentz. Those third down running back types are big upgrades in pass protection compared to Wendell Smallwood, who really struggled in that regard against the Titans. Also just not great to be missing two of the top three running backs when Jay Ajayi is already playing through a fractured back.

The Eagles will release their final injury report on Friday.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)

Vikings starters Trae Waynes, Dalvin Cook, and Everson Griffen missed practice for the second day in a row. That doesn’t bode well for their playing chances on Sunday.

Backup defensive end Tashawn Bower was downgraded to not practicing after being limited on Wednesday. Bower played 33% of Minnesota’s defensive snaps in Week 3 and 25% in Week 4 with Griffen missing time. The absence of both Griffen and Bower would hurt the Vikings’ defensive end depth.

Vikings return man Marcus Sherels was limited for the second day in a row.

Linval Joseph was upgraded to a full participant after practicing on a limited basis on Wednesday.
