Eagles Injury Report: Carson Wentz limited; 7 players miss practice

Update on Philadelphia’s injury situation.

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles released their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 8 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

For the second week in a row, Carson Wentz was limited during a Wednesday practice due to a back issue. Just like last week, Wentz is expected to be full go on Thursday and play on Sunday.

In addition to Wentz, four other players were limited: starting right tackle Lane Johnson, starting left tackle Jason Peters, starting defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, and backup linebacker D.J. Alexander.

Johnson and Peters should be good to play on Sunday.

Ngata was limited in practice all of last week before being inactive for the Panthers game, so it’s hard to say if he’ll be ready to play in London.

Alexander has missed the Eagles’ last two games. He might be able to return this week, which would give the Eagles a boost on special teams and help out with linebacker depth.

Seven players did not practice in any capacity. Those names include: Derek Barnett, Rasul Douglas, Nathan Gerry, Corey Graham, Sidney Jones, Wendell Smallwood, and Darren Sproles.

Both Douglas and Smallwood were out due to personal reasons. They should be ready to play on Sunday.

Doug Pederson confirmed Barnett is out for the season. The Eagles have yet to officially put him on the season-ending injured reserve list. Seems like they’re still figuring out what to do with the roster spot Barnett will soon vacate. Barnett’s absence means Michael Bennett will start and Josh Sweat will see more regular playing time.

Gerry has been out for two games now and it looks like he could miss a third.

Graham hasn’t played since getting hurt early in the Eagles’ Week 5 game. He could be out again.

Jones told reporters he doesn’t expect to be back until “sometime after the [Week 9] bye.” It seems like the Eagles will continue to use Dexter McDougle in the slot until Jones is ready to return.

Sproles hasn’t played since Week 1. At this point, it looks like he won’t be returning until Week 10 at the earliest. The hamstring injury from hell.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS INJURY REPORT (WEDNESDAY)

Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is reportedly going to miss this week’s game as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Jacksonville traded for Carlos Hyde last week so he’ll likely see a lot of carries in Fournette’s absence. Hyde has 22 career attempts against the Eagles for a total of 51 yards (2.3 average).

Both starting nickel corner D.J. Hayden and backup Tyler Patmon missed practice on Wednesday. Maybe the Eagles can get Nelson Agholor going on Sunday.

The Jags have a number of significant players who were limited in practice. It’s still early in the week so we’ll have to see how they progress.
