Report: Giants couldn’t work out scheduling to interview Jim Schwartz

Delaying the process.

Earlier this week, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the New York Giants were set to interview Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in Philadelphia this weekend. As it turns out, that interview did not take place.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the Giants couldn’t work out the scheduling to interview Schwartz.

This means the Giants can’t interview Schwartz until the Eagles are eliminated from the 2018 NFL Playoffs ... OR ... until the Eagles’ bye week prior to the Super Bowl, if Philadelphia makes it there. And that’s assuming the Giants haven’t already hired a new head coach by then.

It’s possible the Giants are just willing to be patient. But the feeling here is they would’ve been more eager to interview Schwartz this weekend if he was truly the “favorite” for the job.

Although multiple national media outlets have propped up Schwartz as a major candidate for the Giants job, Gary Myers of the New York Daily News has consistently maintained New York isn’t hot for Schwartz. The Giants’ lack of desperation to interview Schwartz lines up with Myers’ reporting.

In addition to being a potential candidate for the Giants’ vacancy, reports indicate the Arizona Cardinals also plan to interview Schwartz.

If Schwartz fails to land a head coaching job, he’ll return as Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator in 2018. That would be good for the Eagles.
