Carson Wentz is donating his Eagles game check to a charity of Jake Elliott’s choice

Wentz is keeping to his word, kind of.

Carson Wentz will NOT be giving his game check to Jake Elliott, as he said he would while mic’d up on the sidelines in Week 3. Instead, Wentz will be donating his check to a charity of Elliott’s choice.

Elliot confirmed as much after practice on Wednesday afternoon. He also said that he saw the mic’d up video of Wentz because the Eagles’ starting quarterback texted it to him.

While it’s certainly not what was originally promised, it’s obviously still a great gesture by Wentz to donate his game check to a charitable cause

Here’s everything Wentz had to say about the situation on Wednesday.

WHAT KIND OF ARRANGEMENT HAS BEEN MADE?

Yeah, so I think you guys all heard from Jake a little while ago, but it was funny. It was really funny, obviously. It blew up a lot more than we thought it would. But I think, first of all, it was really cool how we captured that whole moment. You don’t see 61-yard game-winners very often. I just happened to be mic’d up and saying some random things. It was all funny. But then I talked to Jake afterwards and I kinda wanted to donate some of it to a charity of his choice. So that’s what we’re going to do.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT THAT YOU WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA ABOUT THE PAY CHECK?

Well, I knew I was mic’d up, but I didn’t really think about it during the game at all, but then afterwards I’m like ‘Ah, I said that, didn’t I? When we were on mic.’ But it was all good. I thought it was funny.

IF HE HAS A CHANCE TO MAKE A 61-YARDER AGAIN, WOULD YOU SAY THE SAME THING?

(laughs) Who knows? I don’t know. As you saw, I was a little paranoid saying some random things at that moment. It’s a cool moment. It’s a cool moment, for sure. But you never know what’s going through my mind in those moments.

YOU KNOW THAT’S NOT A BINDING CONTRACT, YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF IT?

I could do whatever I want with that, honestly, but I thought it was … it was a cool moment. And I think at the end of the day, talking to Jake, I think it’s just a cool opportunity to give back at the end of the day. That’s kind of why we have this platform, why we play this game. I never lose sleep over helping others.

IT WAS A PRETTY SAFE BET SINCE THE ODDS AREN’T HIGH, RIGHT?

(laughs) I don’t even know if I’d call it a bet. It was just something I was randomly saying on the sideline. Obviously, it was pretty funny. When he made that, you saw everyone’s reaction. I mean, I think the videos are still going out there. It kind of gives you chills. It really … brings you back to why you love this game. Why this game is so fun. I mean, a kicker, a lot of guys don’t interact with the kicker a ton. They’re not even in meetings, they’re doing their own thing often. For a moment like that, for him, and honestly I got the chance to see the video of Jake’s parents … and [it’s] just why you love this game. What it creates and what it brings about, moments like that are ones you’ll never forget.

DO YOU THE EAGLES GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO PUT IT OUT ON VIDEO OR NOT?

Oh yeah. I had the right to deny it. Again, I thought it was a cool moment. I thought it showed the overall moment from my perspective, to really my teammate as we were standing there, and yeah, I didn’t really lose sleep over that.

SOME OF YOUR TEAMMATES SAID THEY’D ACCEPT THE MONEY.

I’m sure they would. I’m sure they’d love it. (laughs)
