Darren Sproles officially placed on Eagles injured reserve list

Sigh.

NFL: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles placed Darren Sproles on the injured reserve list on Monday afternoon, according to an official announcement from the team.

Sproles suffered a broken arm and a torn ACL during the Eagles’ Week 3 win over the New York Giants. His season is now over.

It’s also possible the 34-year-old running back’s career is over as well. It would be terrible to see Sproles go out like this, but he’s previously suggested that 2017 was going to be his last season. It’s worth noting that Sproles is a free agent after this year.

With Sproles going to IR, the Eagles now have an open roster spot. It’s possible the Eagles might look to call up Byron Marshall in order to fill the vacancy. Marshall is obviously no Sproles, but he at least has a similar skill set as a shifty receiving back.

Sproles being out for the rest of the year is a huge blow to the Eagles. He’s a great player on the field and a well-respected figure in the locker room.

He’ll be missed dearly.
