Eagles starting left tackle Jason Peters suffered an injury during Philadelphia’s Week 1 game against the Washington Redskins early on Sunday afternoon.
The injury occurred prior to the end of the second quarter. Peters was ruled questionable to return with a groin injury.
Peters returned to the field for the Eagles’ first offensive snap of the second half but then immediately went to the sideline. Peters kept his helmet on and he hasn’t officially been ruled out so it remains to be seen what’s going on with this situation.
For now, with Peters out, the Eagles put 2016 fifth-round pick Halapoulivaati Vaitai in at left tackle with Lane Johnson staying at right tackle. The Eagles only activated seven offensive linemen for Sunday’s game.
Peters, who received a contract extension this offseason and turns 36 in January, has dealt with a number of nagging injuries over the past few seasons. They need him out on the field because the drop-off from him to Big V is significant.
