The time for 2017 NFL roster cuts is here. Training camp is over. Preseason is over. Now it’s up to teams to decide which players they want to keep for the upcoming regular season.

The Eagles’ roster currently stands at 87 players. Philadelphia needs to get down to the 53-man limit by 4:00 PM ET on Saturday, September 2.

The good news for the Eagles is that they have some tough decisions to make. You don’t want final cuts to be easy because that typically means you don’t have great roster depth.

“The message here in the locker room tonight was I appreciate all their efforts throughout camp and really through OTAs,” said Eagles head coach Doug Pederson after the final preseason game. “There were some great efforts. The effort [against the Jets] was there. I wanted them to make decisions tough on us and these battles that you guys are talking about we wanted to make it tough. Make these decisions hard. These next two days will be very important obviously for our football team and really the lives of some young men that we’re eventually going to have to let go.”

After the final cut is in, the Eagles will have a chance to claim players that other teams cut. Philadelphia claimed three players on waivers last season and two of them are still on the roster at the time of this post. In order to make room for the waiver claims, the Eagles will need to make even more cuts.

The Eagles will also be making a 10-man practice squad. That will be comprised mostly of the players they just cut.

The Eagles might not officially announce many cuts before the deadline, but news will leak out regarding their intentions. As always, stay tuned here to Bleeding Green Nation for the best Eagles coverage around. Check out our live roster cut trackers featuring all the latest updates.
