Eagles-Jets Preseason 2017: Game Predictions and Preview

The ultimate “Who Cares?” game!

ONE week remains until the 2017 NFL regular season schedule kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 7. In the meantime, there’s still some preseason football to watch.

I mean, that’s if you really wanna call what’s going to be on display tonight “football.” It should be a pretty sloppy game since tonight will feature a bunch of third stringers and guys who will likely be out of jobs very shortly.

The quarterback matchup looks especially bad. Two former Penn State quarterbacks will go head-to-head to prove who can be less awful. For the Eagles, it’s likely Matt McGloin starting at quarterback. The Jets will send out wasted 2016 draft pick Christian Hackenberg.

I’ve gotta say, Hackenberg’s performance in last year’s preseason game might be the most awful performance from a quarterback I’ve ever seen. He went 11/31 (35.5%) for 54 yards (1.7 yards per attempt), zero touchdowns, one interception, and a 30.7 passer rating.

But enough about Hack. Despite my cynicism, this game is still important for a number of players trying to make one last strong impression before final roster cuts take place on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The Eagles still have a number of roster battles up in the air. The big one to watch is what happens at running back. Donnel Pumprhey has failed to impress this offseason. Tonight’s a good opportunity for him to change that.

There isn’t much more to say about this game. I think we can all agree we just want it to be over with so we can get to cuts and then the regular season. Here’s hoping everyone stays healthy and plays well in the last preseason game of the summer.
