TWO weeks remain until 2017 NFL regular season opening night kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 7. In the meantime, there’s still some preseason football to watch.
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to face the Miami Dolphins tonight. Each team is playing their third preseason game. This tilt marks the Eagles’ second and final home game of the exhibition schedule.
Tonight marks the Eagles’ dress rehearsal game. Though Doug Pederson didn’t officially confirm how long the starters will play, history tells us the first team will see action into the third quarter. That’s how Philadelphia handled the their third preseason game last year.
Though the outcome of this game doesn’t matter, it’ll still be interesting to see these teams matched up after practicing for a couple days earlier this week.
It’ll also be interesting to see who steps up now that the starters will get a lot of playing time. The Eagles could look to mix some depth players in with the first team units to see how they fare against starters. Here’s a look at the 13 players we’re more interested to see tonight.
One of the biggest things to watch is how the Eagles’ offense fares against Miami’s defense. The Dolphins have given up 51 points in two games so far. Only three teams have allowed more in the preseason and one of those teams (the Cardinals) played an extra game.
Carson Wentz had success against the Dolphins in practice but now it’s time for him and the Eagles’ starting offense to prove they can get something going in real game action.
Here’s hoping for an injury-free game and an Eagles offensive performance that isn’t as sluggish as last week.
