Lane Johnson made a bold promise in his recent column for The Players’ Tribune. If you haven’t seen it by now, here’s what he said.
Let me tell you what’s going to happen in a couple of weeks: This team is going to go down to D.C. and whup some ass against the Redskins. We’re going to surprise some people.
Naturally, Johnson’s comments caught attention down in D.C. Thanks to the help of a tattle-tale fan, at least one Washington player noticed what Johnson had to say and fired back at the Eagles’ offensive lineman.
They are some new boys in town and we don't need PEDs to win... but just for u, 53 will be seeing you!— Zach Brown (@ZachBrown_55) August 23, 2017
Several problems here.
1 - “They are some new boys in town” — I’m guessing this means “There are some new boys in town”? I think Brown may have been aiming for “They’re” which is still very wrong. Kind of hard to look tough when you have a typo in the first word of your response.
2 - Why is Zach Brown the first Washington player to respond? He only signed with the team this offseason. He hasn’t even been around for this rivalry.
3 - “We don’t need PEDs to win” — that’s a good one. The only problem is ... Brown’s teammate, defensive end Trent Murphy, is suspended for the first four games of the season ... due to PEDs. (Murphy suffered a season-ending knee injury after news of his suspension.)
Brown’s tweet is pretty tame as far as offseason trash talk goes, so this is hardly a big deal or anything. But I’m sure he won’t be the only Washington player weigh in on Johnson’s comments.
We’re only 17 days away from Eagles vs. Redskins in Week 1.
