Philadelphia Eagles rule out 11 players for Bills game

Here’s who’s in and who’s out.

The Philadelphia Eagles have ruled out 11 players ahead of their preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. The following players will not dress:

QB Nick Foles (elbow)

WR Bryce Treggs (calf)

WR Paul Turner (shoulder)

OT Jason Peters (excused personal absence)

OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee)

RB Wendell Smallwood (hamstring)

CB Ron Brooks (hamstring)

TE Anthony Denham (calf)

OG Josh Andrews (hand)

DT Beau Allen (NFI list)

CB Sidney Jones (NFI list)

Peters is reportedly out due to a death in his family. Lane Johnson will start in his place at left tackle with Matt Tobin starting at right tackle. Halapoulivaait Vaitai would normally start on the right side in this case but as you can see he’s also hurt.

Smallwood is out again after missing last week’s preseason game. Maybe the Eagles are just playing it really safe with him, but it’s not a great sign that he continues to miss time. His absence potentially keeps the door open for Corey Clement to make the roster.

Foles is out again which means Matt McGloin will be backing up Carson Wentz. Rookie Dane Evans is the third string quarterback. Perhaps Foles could be ready for next week’s game.

Treggs is another notable absence. The second-year receiver had a good outing last week but he’s been out since suffering a leg injury in that game.

The good news for the Eagles is that Alshon Jeffery and Ronald Darby are not inactive. They’re both expected to make their debuts tonight!
