This news hardly comes as a surprise given the fact Matthews suffered a chest injury in his first practice with the Bills last weekend. It’s standard procedure for injured players to not travel with the team.
It’s a bummer to see JMatt won’t be visiting Philadelphia. It would have been nice for Eagles fans to give him a cheer prior to the game tonight. He also would have been available to the media. Matthews still hasn’t spoken with reporters since the trade occurred last Friday.
It’s unclear if/when Matthews might return to the Linc in the future. Assuming he re-signs with the Bills, which isn’t guaranteed, it could have to wait until 2019. That’s when the Eagles and Bills next face each other in the regular season, and that game could take place in Buffalo.
Meanwhile, the player the Eagles received in the Matthews trade is expected to make his Philadelphia debut. Ronald Darby has been a full participant in practice all week. Doug Pederson said he’s leaning towards playing the new Eagles cornerback.
