This news isn’t surprising. Adam Schefter reported earlier this summer that there was a “growing sense” Zeke will be suspended. Then earlier this week Cris Carter said Elliott’s suspension could be longer than two games. On Thursday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said the Elliott suspension is coming as soon as today, August 11.
Clarity coming on #Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott: The ruling on his investigation is expected soon, source said. Could be as early as tomorrow.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 10, 2017
Elliott is expected to be suspended under the league’s personal conduct policy. Along with being investigated for a domestic violence incident for over a year, the Cowboys running back just hasn’t been able to stay out of trouble. Here’s a reminder of the off-field things Zeke has been involved with this offseason:
- Allegedly involved in a night club fight
- Reportedly got a speeding ticket
- Got caught on camera pulling down a woman’s top in public
Zeke is one of the league’s brightest young talents. It’s not a good look for the NFL to have him in the headlines for those kind of negative reasons. Thus the reason for his expected suspension.
It’s still unclear exactly how many games Elliott will be suspended. Even if it’s just one game, though, that could make a difference in the playoff standings. He’s the Cowboys’ best player and it remains to be seen how they’d fare without him.
Expect the news to be officially announced soon.
