Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Eagles rookie WR Shelton Gibson getting the hang of the offense - Daily News
Gibson had a rough spring as he struggled mightily to get his arms around Doug Pederson’s offense during OTAs. Dropped too many passes. Didn’t really make any eye-catching plays until the final two days of the mandatory minicamp in June. “He’s coming along,” Pederson said Monday after the completion of the first of three rookie training-camp practices before the full squad reports on Thursday. “He’s by no means where he wants to be or where we want him to be. But he’s learning our system. He’s learning a new offense. He understands his role. He knows he has to really come in here and compete for an opportunity.”
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: All aboard the Mack Hollins hype train - BGN
Aside from that one drop, Hollins had a really good day. He beat Rasul Douglas on a comeback for a tough, contested catch along the sideline. The Gloveless Wonder also made another contested catch in the red zone with Nathan Gerry draped all over him. Some big receivers don’t play to their size (see: DGB). Hollins seems like a guy who doesn’t mind getting physical.
My 10 all-time favorite Eagles-related MS Paint drawings - PhillyVoice
After the embattled Alex Henery struggled mightily during the 2013 season, and then 2014 training camp, fans were terrified of the thought of going into the season with him as the team's kicker. Henery's 2014 training camp was so bad that the Eagles traded for Cody Parkey in the middle of the preseason, and Parkey proceeded to emphatically win the job away from Henery.
Camp Opens - Iggles Blitz
I think Pumphrey is a player they want to use this season. The key is to find out what he does best and then design a role for those skills. Pumphrey would be a situational player, but could still make impact plays if used correctly.
Sharp rise: Carson Wentz in power position entering Year 2 with Eagles - ESPN
"These guys will do anything for Carson," head coach Doug Pederson said as the makeshift minicamp was going on. "They went to Fargo. That's great." It's another piece of evidence that points to Wentz's growing clout in the Eagles' locker room. Some of that is to be expected. He is the quarterback and a former No. 2 overall pick, after all, and enjoys the full backing of management. It's common sense that if you want to be a part of the ride, you better get on the Wentz Wagon. That said, this is a business where respect is absolutely earned and not given. You don't have to hang around this team long to realize that the respect for Wentz is sincere and far-reaching, which has allowed the 24-year-old to assume a key leadership role in fairly short order.
Camp Question: Instant Rookie Impact? - PE.com
Derek Barnett has big goals, big ideas, and a plan for his NFL future. But he’s not one of those players who talks a lot and boasts. Instead, he’s just going about the business of trying to make an impact as a rookie with the Eagles in 2017 …
Best Case/Worst Case 2017: RBs - Rotoworld
35) LeGarrette Blount - Best Case: Blount’s touchdown total decreases by 10, but he posts his second straight 1,000-yard season after going five years without a 1K campaign. The yards come easy behind Philly’s excellent line. Worst Case: Even with plus run blocking, Blount finds that no Tom Brady equals more brick walls to run into. Philly’s crowded backfield sprawls into an unwieldy committee as Blount fails to surpass 600 yards.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie Donnel Pumphrey says team wants to groom him as a punt returner - PennLive
Pumphrey said Monday Eagles coaches are grooming him as a punt returner. The idea, Pumphrey explained, is that he'd be an option to step into the role if Darren Sproles suffers an injury this season and could also take over as a full-time punt returner once Sproles -- who, at 34, has suggested he could be entering his final NFL season -- retires. "That's why they're trying to keep me catching punts every day," Pumphrey said, "because that's probably a role I'll eventually play."
Torrey Smith's son T.J. the standout star from Day 1 of Eagles training camp - CSN Philly
There's typically an unexpected standout star in the first few days of training camp every summer, but most times that person is over three-feet tall. The Eagles kicked off their training camp activities at the NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia on Monday morning and most of the rookies were there to go through drills. But it was little T.J. Smith, son of veteran free agent wide receiver Torrey Smith, who stole the show. The two were seen on the field throwing the pigskin around with camera crews filming for a segment for TheUndefeated website.
When will Cowboys hold misbehaving players “accountable”? - PFT
The words send a clear message. The video and audio have a clear tell. Watch the clip attached to this post; Garrett does the classic hard gulp before saying the word “accountable.” Possibly because he knows damn well that the Cowboys aren’t about to hold anyone accountable. It’s a point made here a few weeks ago, and nothing has changed. The owner calls the shots, and the owner is willing to tolerate boys being boys in order to put his fingerprints on a trophy earned by a team that he built. So the coach is toothless when it comes to making an example out of anyone or everyone who crosses the line. The truth is that there is no line, or if there is it’s going to take a lot more than what has happened to date for someone to step over it.
Ranking all 32 NFL teams by their 2017 Rookie of the Year candidates - SB Nation
18. Philadelphia Eagles: Derek Barnett — The Eagles used a fourth-round pick on diminutive but uber-productive tailback Donnel Pumphrey, and while he’ll have the chance to make plays from the backfield, Barnett should be the headliner of the team’s rookie class. The athletic defensive end is a powerful edge rusher who can turn the corner and harass quarterbacks at the next level. A handful of sacks and pressures will sway voters in his favor.
