We’ve been part of a refresh that has been taking place at SB Nation over the past few months. This has included members of the staff explaining why we’re fans of the Eagles. One of the best experiences as a fan is getting the opportunity to watch your favorite team play live on Sundays — or Mondays and Thursdays. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to watch the Eagles play at Lincoln Financial Field due to proximity, but I have been able to watch them on the road. I’ve only been to two NFL games in my 22 years of life, 2015 Week 7 Eagles/Panthers and 2016 Week 4 Falcons/Panthers, but the atmosphere is always electric. To help share the experience, we wanted to give you a list of the top Eagles games to attend this year!
5. Week 6 Eagles @ Panthers, Oct 12.
This is likely the only Eagles game I’ll be able to attend, but it should be a good one! The Eagles will matchup against former MVP Cam Newton, former DPOY Luke Kuechely and Christian McCaffrey along with the rest of a Carolina team that is a year removed from a 15-1 record that propelled them to the Super Bowl. Charlotte is a smaller market, but it’s always growing with tons of events and concerts as well. A Thursday night game will be hard one for most fans to travel to, but this could be a pivotal matchup for playoff seeding if the Panthers bounce back to form.
4. Week 2 Eagles @ Chiefs, Sep 17.
Another road game for the Eagles, but also a good litmus test. The Chiefs look to return a core of Pro-Bowl defenders such as Eric Berry, Marcus Peters and Justin Houston, and they've even added former Eagle Bennie Logan. Add in Doug Pederson returning to Kansas City to square off against former Eagles coach Andy Reid and you have a perfect storyline. One thing fans and writers alike will be looking at in this game is how Carson Wentz fares against a defense that ranked 7th against the pass last year according to Football Outsiders. Our own Dave Mangels recently previewed this matchup?
3. Week 16 Raiders @ Eagles, Dec 25.
It’s likely to be cold, but after you and your family have had too much eggnog, what better way is there to spend your Christmas evening than pelting Santa Clause with the nearest object you can find? All joking aside, the joy of finding Eagles tickets in your stocking on Christmas morning to a game later that night is unrivaled! To make things better you’ll have the opportunity to watch two of the bright young quarterbacks face off in Carson Wentz and Derek Carr.
2. Week 14 Eagles @ Seahawks, Dec 3.
If the Eagles go on to make the playoffs in 2017, winning this game would make most fans feel good about the team’s postseason success. The Seahawks have been one of the NFC’s top teams since 2012, compiling a playoff record of 8-4 over that span with two Super Bowl appearances while winning atleast one playoff game each year. Seattle was one of the teams Carson Wentz Nelson Agholor couldn't line up right struggled with last year. Seattle is not the easiest place to play, but the atmosphere in Century Link, friend or enemy, is one of the best in the NFL. One thing to note as well is the Washington area scenery is something to behold if you're traveling there!
1. Week 17 Cowboys @ Eagles, Dec 31.
Was there ever any doubt? This game could realistically be for the NFC East title, and likely a playoff spot. Dallas is coming off of a 13-3 record, but the Eagles proved in 2016 that they could handle this offense at it’s best. Typically the schedule makers do a good job at predicting Week 17 matchups for division titles or playoff spots (see Cowboys 2008-2009, 2011-2013). The best part of all of this? The Eagles play host. There’s no better way to ring in the New Year by (hopefully) celebrating an NFC East championship over the Eagles’ most hated division rival in your own building!
Honorable Mentions
Week 13 Bears @ Eagles, Nov 26.
Everyone likes to see a win in person, right?
Week 3 Giants @ Eagles, Sep 24.
The Eagles home opener will be against the Giants, a team they have historically owned. The atmosphere is bound to be electric for that!
Week 7 Redskins @ Eagles, Oct 4.
Most of us can agree Mondays suck. What makes them suck a little less is a MNF game against a division rival, and the last two times the Eagles and Skins have played on MNF, Mike Vick had the best game of his career and Chip Kelly lit the world on fire.
