In case you weren’t aware, a man by the name of Rashaun Sligh has been patiently camped on the curb of the street across from the Eagles’ practice facility in South Philly for the past week. Sligh (pictured above) has been hoping for a tryout with the Eagles.
Sligh hasn’t achieved his goal yet, but he has successfully drawn attention from the team. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson had the following message for Sligh on Tuesday.
“Keep trying,” said Pederson. “I mean, seriously, keep plugging away. You never know what's going to happen. A door could open. My career started kind of very similar as an undrafted free agent. You've just got to keep trying and keep plugging and keep working hard, and hopefully you can keep following your dream that way.”
Howie Roseman and Malcolm Jenkins have gone out to talk with Sligh, per CSN Philly. Sligh also had cheesesteaks delivered to him by a notable former Eagles tryout player: Vince Papale.
While a tryout with the Eagles might not happen, Sligh is drawing interest from another football team. The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League are set to give the former Temple student a tryout on Thursday, per Tim McManus.
It’s nice to see Sligh’s persistence is paying off. Here’s hoping he makes the most of his chance.
