The Philadelphia Eagles finally addressed the running back position in the fourth round after missing out on two of their earlier targets, Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook. Here’s more information on the new Eagles rookie running back.
In the last three seasons, Donnel Pumphrey had 2843 yards after contact forced TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHT missed tackles.

Jerry says the #Cowboys were debating Pumphrey and Switzer before the #Eagles jumped them to draft Pumphrey.

One GM on new Eagle RB Donnell Pumphrey: "He's absolutely lights out on tape, very productive. He's just tiny."
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) April 29, 2017
Donnel Pumphrey is awesome. Pumped that he's headed to Philly. Potential heir to Darren Sproles.
— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) April 29, 2017
Their next Darren Sproles, potentially. https://t.co/yg1aoWtnBo

I am not a huge fan of this pick. Donnel Pumphrey had a great college career, but 176 pounds for a RB bugs me. Great production at SDSU.

Donnell Pumphrey is a star. The speed, the lateral agility, the vision. Makes guys look stupid. pic.twitter.com/Ix8WF97RuX

Did I mention how absolutely filthy Donnell Pumphrey is? pic.twitter.com/rhF3ZuZTRl
— Kyle (@IgglesNest) September 14, 2016
Donnel Pumphrey (3.4 YCO) averaged more yards after contact in 2016 than Leonard Fournette (2.8 YCO). #Eagles
— Kyle (@IgglesNest) April 30, 2017
Pumphrey-Sproles comparisons are obvious, but also simplistic. Sproles is 190, benched 23 reps at combine. Pumphrey is 176, benched 5 reps
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) April 30, 2017
But both players handled enormous college loads at their size, and are durable by eluding tackles, avoiding big hits. That's a good model.
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) April 30, 2017
Pumphrey will thrive in the Eagles' offense. Excellent fit, he'll succeed despite short stature.
— John Breitenbach (@PFF_John) April 29, 2017
LOVE IT! Everyone is going to cite his size, but he has great vision and patience.
— Iowa_Eagle (@Randyljobst) April 29, 2017
Pumphrey has skill, but given his size, if I’m Wendell Smallwood, I’m feeling pretty good about myself right now.
— Les Bowen (@LesBowen) April 29, 2017
Pumphrey produced in college, but is small -- 5-8, 176. To put it in perspective, Darren Sproles is two inches shorter and 14 lbs heavier.

— Tyler R. Tynes (@TylerRickyTynes) April 29, 2017
Pumphrey is a multi purpose RB if all works out, but that doesn't spell primary guy. Too small. https://t.co/ZBiL58qLJu

It's happening: Donnel Pumphrey GIF thread, notes, and grades.

Yes. That is a mid 3rd-round grade on Pumphrey's tape. Bring me your ire. pic.twitter.com/HBbrDnI2OU
Example A: Insanely quick feet. Great vision, leverage usage, and anticipation. CoD and burst are excellent. Lacks ideal 2nd level speed. pic.twitter.com/mZgOyruOPC
— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) March 30, 2017
He has the vision, patience, and speed variance to work with his blockers (PBS run). Then, one player left to beat: SKRRT! Cocky sonuva gun. pic.twitter.com/kNknd6TBiz

How many RBs do you know that aren't hitting that first cutback lane? How many RBs do you know twitched up enough to make this play? pic.twitter.com/Eze1k7xcci

Folks tell me DP isn't a between the tackles runner; he bounces too often.
— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) March 30, 2017
There's only one other RB in the class who makes this play. CMcC pic.twitter.com/YYRpTAXzgF
Go get what's yours! He's not afraid of contact and deadly in space. You're telling me there isn't room for that on an NFL roster? pic.twitter.com/32YfRz95Xs

Get ready to work @Pumphrey6K ! Glad you're an Eagle!
