Eagles News: Sidney Jones gives an update on his injury recovery

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/13/17.

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

CB Sidney Jones Talks About His Recovery - PE.com
In the meantime, Jones will get busy in the weight room and in the film room. He will work on his nutrition and spent countless hours rehabbing the injury. Because of NFL rules prohibiting rookies from practicing until their school classes graduate, Jones will leave Philadelphia on Sunday and won’t return until June 10 for the team’s mandatory minicamp. Jones will go back to Seattle and rehab there. He will have the walking boot removed from his left foot on May 21, a mini-goal to look forward to. He will focus on every minute of every day and try to improve in whatever ways he can.

Sidney Jones shoots down report of October return, stresses rehab will be taken slowly - PhillyVoice
Over the past few days, a report surfaced that injured second-round draft pick Sidney Jones would be back on the field for the Eagles in October. And with Jones in Philly for the first time at Eagles rookie mini-camp on Friday, he quickly put the kibosh on that story.

Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer gets tryout with Eagles before active duty begins - ESPN
The name alone -- Weston Steelhammer -- is enough to garner attention, as it has both in the Philadelphia Eagles' locker room (fellow teammates were snapping photos of the nameplate above his stall) and even nationally. "'Saturday Night Live' did a porn-star play with it," he said following the first day of rookie camp Friday. "That one didn't go over too well with the parents."

Corey Clement will get his chance to make the Eagles - Inquirer
After the Glassboro native went undrafted by the NFL, he waited for the call he wanted - and got it. Corey Clement didn't have much time to wallow in the frustration of not being drafted. The calls from NFL teams looking to sign the then-free agent rookie running back, he said, reached a frenzied state. But Clement was waiting for one specific number to pop up on his phone.

Right side or left side? For Derek Barnett, D-end is D-end - CSN Philly
Friday was the first time first-round pick Derek Barnett got to throw on an Eagles uniform. Just don't expect the 20-year-old defensive end to get too sentimental about rookie minicamp. "[I'm] very excited, but I don't try to get all wide-eyed about it," Barnett said. "I just try to take practice day by day and get better at my craft and learn as much as I can."

Derek Barnett, Donnel Pumphrey and 10 instant observations from Eagles rookie minicamp - NJ.com
Hitting Pumphrey, however, might be a problem for opposing defenses. Even though he was just running through drills, it was clear Pumphrey has elite speed and quick feet, something that has always helped veteran running back Darren Sproles. Pumphrey spent the portion of practice open to the media mostly catching punts, and if he gets in the open field with the ball, it's clear he is going to be very tough to bring down.

Three Air Force players get NFL tryouts - PFT
Via Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post, three Air Force Academy players will spend the weekend on a tryout basis at rookie minicamps. Receiver Jalen Robinette will attend the Bills’ rookie minicamp, safety Weston Steelhammer will participate in the Eagles’ rookie minicamp, and linebacker Ryan Watson will audition for a job with the Cardinals. Current Air Force and Department of Defense policy, however, prevents them from avoiding an active-duty obligation by playing pro football.

Scout’s Notebook - NFL.com
Sam Bradford rarely gets mentioned as one of the top quarterbacks in the game, but I believe the former No. 1 overall pick is poised to crack the top 10 at his position this year.

Former Cowboys LB Rolando McClain arrested on marijuana, firearm charges - SB Nation
Rolando McClain’s NFL career is almost certainly over after his latest transgression.
