The Philadelphia Eagles selected Washington defensive tackle Elijah Qualls with the No. 214 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
This appears to be a decent value selection for Philadelphia. NFL.com projected Qualls to be a third or fourth round selection, but the Eagles picked him up in the sixth round.
Qualls fills a need for the Eagles. Timmy Jernigan and Beau Allen are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents after this season. Allen suffered an offseason injury and might not be ready by Week 1. Qualls could potentially earn a spot on the roster in Allen’s role as a rotational defensive tackle.
There’s nothing complicated or sexy about the Qualls pick. The Eagles simply used a late round pick on a run-stuffer, which is fine. Philadelphia will hope the concerns about his work ethic are overblown.
I’ll give this pick a B+ rating. How about you? Vote in the poll below.
