The Philadelphia Eagles selected Nathan Gerry with the No. 184 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Gerry played safety in college. He had 273 tackles, 19 passes defensed and 13 interceptions over four years.
But now the Eagles are moving Gerry to linebacker in the NFL. Currently measuring in at 6-2, 218 pounds, the Eagles will likely want Gerry to put on some weight to play his new position. He’ll also have to learn the position from a mental standpoint.
The Eagles might view Gerry as a potential Mychal Kendricks replacement at WILL linebacker. His coverage skills could come in handy at that spot. Kendricks only played about 27% of the team’s snaps in 2016 so the Eagles could keep Gerry in a limited role on defense. Gerry will also be expected to contribute on special teams.
It’s hard to completely evaluate this pick given the position change factor. Given that there’s some uncertainty here with him being a developmental pick, I’ll give this a C rating.
How about you?
