I woke up this morning feeling excited. The 2017 NFL Draft is finally here. Bleeding Green Nation will be covering the big event live from the scene of the draft in Philadelphia. It’s a big day!
But then I thought about how this day potentially could have been a lot worse. Because for quite some time there, the Eagles weren’t even going to have a draft pick on the first night of the day. They had traded their 2017 first round pick in the deal to get Carson Wentz.
There’s no doubt Wentz showed franchise quarterback potential as a rookie, so it’s not like missing the pick would have been the worst thing in the world. It was the price to pay. Still, not having a first round pick on the night where the draft is hosted in Philadelphia would have been so lame.
Thankfully we don’t have to worry about that. And now that draft day is here, that’s a great feeling. So here’s a toast to Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles for trading Sam Bradford — Sam Bradford! — for a first round pick. It’s still so hard to believe they pulled that deal off. And they even got a 2018 fourth-round pick too!
So thanks again, Eagles. Because without the Bradford trade, this night would have been a lot less exciting than it projects to be. It feels like the Eagles could go a million different ways with their first round pick. The intrigue is high and it’ll be exciting to see the reveal.
Thank God the Eagles traded Sam Bradford for a first round pick.
