Which position will the Philadelphia Eagles draft in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft? That’s the question I posed to you yesterday and the votes are in. It appears there’s no clear favorite at any position. Here’s the top five.
Cornerback - 31%
Wide receiver - 26%
Running back - 23%
Defensive end - 14%
Linebacker - 4%
I see you sneaking in at the bottom there, Reuben Foster fans.
No surprise to see cornerback is the No. 1 option given Philadelphia’s desperate (and transparent) need at the position. But it’s sure hard to see the Eagles going that route now with Gareon Conley’s draft stock seemingly taking a hit after reportedly being accused of sexual assault. Maybe Marlon Humphrey is in play?
Wide receiver buzz has picked up recently with talk of Corey Davis being the Eagles’ target. The Western Michigan pass catcher told SportsRadio 94WIP he expects to be picked between No. 12 and No. 18. The Eagles just so happen to pick at No. 14. Hmm. Mike Williams and John Ross are the other potential first round guys.
Running back would be a big surprise, but the Dalvin Cook hype is ramping up again. His grandmother said that Duce Staley really wants him on the Eagles. Also Jimmy Kempski seems to be backtracking on his stance that Cook isn’t in play in round one. Christian McCaffrey has often been linked to the Eagles, though rumors indicate he might not fall out of the top ten. Or even make it to the Panthers at No. 8.
Defensive end is a position that people are sleeping on way too much. I know it’s not the Eagles’ biggest immediate need but hey, the Eagles have talked about being patient and building their team with the long-term in mind. They’ve also talked about building through the trenches and rumors indicate a defensive end will likely be the pick at No. 14. Charles Harris and Derek Barnett are the two main names to watch.
