Ho ho ho! The latest 2017 NFL schedule leak indicates that the Philadelphia Eagles will play the Oakland Raiders at Lincoln Financial Field on Christmas this year. This rumor comes from Kyle Scott of Crossing Broad.
December 25 falls on a Monday this year so this Eagles-Raiders contest will be featured on a national audience on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
The Eagles haven’t played on Christmas day since they defeated the Cowboys 23-7 in Dallas in 2006.
The Eagles haven’t played the Raiders since they obliterated them in Oakland in 2013. I need not remind you that Nick Foles threw for an NFL-record-tying seven touchdowns in that game. The Raiders have gotten much better since then. Foles has not; he’s now the Eagles’ backup quarterback.
[insert obligatory Philly fans throwing snowballs at Santa Claus joke here]
To recap, here’s what we’ve heard about the Eagles schedule so far:
Week 1 - at Washington Redskins
Week 3 - versus New York Giants
Week 13 - at Seattle Seahawks
Week 14 - at Los Angeles Rams
Week 15 - at New York Giants
Week 16 - Oakland Raiders
