NFL Mock Draft 2017: Mike Williams to the Cleveland Browns

With the 12th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Mike Williams, WR, Clemson.

The Situation

This year, (like pretty much since most people can remember) the Cleveland Browns head into the draft with loads of picks and a roster full of holes. On offense, the Browns need help at every position except for RB, TE and OT. On defense, meanwhile, every position except LB, S, and with them taking Myles Garrett, DE, is of major need. Looking all of these positions, however, many of them are have little first round talent left at this phase of the draft, or are simply weak position groups this year. Interior offensive line is weak, there are no 1st round Safeties other than Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker (already taken), the QB class is weak, and through some more elimination I got down to WR.

The Pick

With Corey Davis having already gone to the Panthers at 8, I selected the next best receiver on the board, Mike Williams. Williams, similar to Davis, is a big body, at 6’4", 218 pounds. Williams' game depends heavily on simply going up and getting the ball, and he’s the type of receiver that every team in the NFL wants. And with the Browns losing Number 1 wide receiver Terrelle Pryor to WFT, he’s a young playmaker that the Browns need. His ball tracking ability is impeccable, and he has all the tools to dominate at the next level. Though some may be turned off by his 2015 neck injury or his sometimes suspect hands, I believe that this is the best pick for a Browns team that is starved for talent.
