So much for a quiet free agency period! The Philadelphia Eagles might be making a huge splash on Thursday afternoon. Alshon Jeffery is reportedly leaning towards signing with Philadelphia, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. Crossing Broad’s Kyle Scott has also said the Eagles are likely to land Jeffery.
It was reported earlier on Thursday the Eagles were “making a strong push” to get Jeffery. It looks like their push might be strong enough.
Jeffery, 27, could be a legitimate No. 1 receiver for the Eagles. In five seasons with the Bears, Jeffery logged 304 receptions for 4,549 yards (15.0 yards per reception) and 26 touchdowns.
At 6-4, 230 pounds, Jeffery could be a big, physical target for Carson Wentz to work with. He could also be a nice complement for speedy new Eagles signing Torrey Smith.
The Eagles’ potential signing of Jeffery doesn’t come without concerns. He’s missed 17 games since entering the league in 2012. Jeffery has dealt with some soft tissue injuries during that time. He’s also only one PED suspension away from being suspended for 10 games, similar to how Lane Johnson got penalized last year.
Ultimately, it seems like the Eagles might feel Jeffery is worth the risk. Exciting times!
