Free agent wide receiver Kenny Britt is expected to sign a contract with the Cleveland Browns and NOT the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Caplan.
Earlier this week, ESPN reported the Eagles had interest in Britt. Shortly after that, some crazy rumors started to circulate about how Britt was in Atlantic City telling people he signed with the Eagles, but Britt’s agent promptly shot those down.
Then on Wednesday evening, one Twitter user claimed their understanding was that Britt was headed to Philadelphia. But it turns out that was completely wrong. In addition, Mike Garafolo reports the Eagles were never in on Britt at all. (Don’t spread #FakeNews, folks.)
Britt’s contract with Cleveland is reportedly worth $32.5 million over four years. That’s a decent amount of money for a player who turns 29 in September and is coming off a career season. I thought the Eagles should have interest in Britt, but probably not at that price.
Britt is one of a few free agent Eagles wide receiver targets to come off the board. Kenny Stills (Dolphins) and DeSean Jackson (Buccaneers) are also reportedly off the market. It will be interesting to see how Philadelphia addresses the wide receiver position in free agency now given that it’s such a big need and their options are growing fewer.
