NFL Free Agency Rumors: Chase Daniel visiting Jets

Former Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Chase Daniel is visiting the New York Jets on Monday, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter. Daniel just wrapped up a free agent visit with one of his former teams, the New Orleans Saints, on Sunday.

Daniel has been on the open market ever since the Eagles cut him last Monday. The 30-year-old passer requested his release since he wants to be a starter. The Jets don’t have a starter in place so Daniel will at least get a chance to compete for playing time there. Bryce Petty and the disastrous Christian Hackenberg are the only two quarterbacks the Jets currently have under contract.

It’s good news for the Eagles that Daniel’s market seems to be “heating up.” The more money he receives from his next team means the more cap room the Eagles will save due to the offset language in his contract. Unfortunately, however, that savings won’t come to the Eagles until 2018.

With Daniel gone, the Eagles signed Nick Foles to be the team’s backup behind Carson Wentz.
